If you live in Miami then you know this weekend is the Art Basel festivities. When the art world explodes in Miami. Fortunately, there are a few on Haitian culture. This morning I went to the Global Caribbean III opening at the Little Haiti Cultural Center. It's a beautiful exhibit of contemporary creative Haitian art.
More pictures are availabe Global Caribbean pics .
Also at the exhibit is the Lomax project. A young ethnomusicologist who went to Haiti in 1936 to study and record sights and sounds that inspired the true origins of American jazz, blues and folk music. This project was commissioned by the U.S. Library of Congress and up until recently was there in hibernation. Through support from the Green Family Foundation, this documentary was unearthed and is now available for viewing.
I encourage you to go see for yourselves. There are also two more exhibits in the Design District: "Les Jacmeliens" hosted by the Haitian Heritage Museum, and the "Haiti Art Expo 2011".
